Reading
At Yarborough we place a great emphasis on learning to read and develop a love of reading. Each project has a book that is celebrated throughout which links to the project theme. This is known as our novel study.
Reading is taught through the project journeys as well as discretely during weekly guided reading sessions and weekly individual reading opportunities with an adult. Children take books home, matched to their ability from our extensive library. This is done independently during Key Stage Two using a computerised library borrowing system which also allows access to e-books.
Classroom environments also celebrate reading, often providing ‘chill-out’ reading areas which are very popular.
