Mini Maths Missions
When projects are planned, links are made to all areas of the curriculum.
Maths is no exception to this, but not all areas of maths can create a purposeful link. We therefore made the decision to discretely teach the areas not included in the project through mini maths missions.
These work very much like projects but are 1 week in duration. A purpose is given at the beginning of the week with a problem that they need to solve. The skills needed to solve this problem are then taught, practiced and explored leading up to their application on the Friday.
The skills the children learn in mini maths missions can then be successfully applied in projects.
A clear Calculation policy is followed throughout the school.
Children practice their counting and number facts skills every day to build up fluency and confidence. This includes learning times tables.
